Reviews & Content Policy

How reviews work on Filteraty, and the rules that keep them honest.

Effective

1. Why this policy exists

Reviews exist so the next homeowner can learn from real work. This policy covers reviews and other user content on Filteraty. It forms part of the Terms of Use.

2. Who can review

A review of a contractor can be written only by the homeowner who told us they hired that contractor on a real project — the platform enforces this. You must be signed in, the project must be yours, and the contractor you review must be the one you reported hiring after a genuine conversation on that project.

One review per hire. Where the platform offers it, you can update your review as the work progresses or concludes.

3. What a review must be

  • A genuine account of your own experience with the work and the contractor. First-hand only.
  • Factual claims should be accurate; opinions should be honestly held.
  • No harassment, threats, hate, or discrimination; no posting someone else’s personal information; no unlawful content.
  • No links, promotions, or content unrelated to the work.

4. Independence rules — the part that is law, not just policy

Under Canada’s deceptive-marketing law, a review that hides a material connection to the business it reviews can make both the reviewer and the business liable. On Filteraty:

  • Do not review your own business, your employer, a family member’s business, or a competitor — and never without disclosing the connection.
  • Contractors must not write, commission, purchase, or incentivize reviews — of themselves or anyone else.
  • Nobody may offer anything (payment, discount, prize) in exchange for a review, a positive review, or the editing or removal of a review. Filteraty itself does not pay or incentivize reviews.
  • Review "gating" — steering only happy customers toward reviewing — is not permitted.

5. What Filteraty does and does not do with reviews

  • We do not remove or suppress a review because it is negative. A contractor’s rating reflects the genuine reviews received, positive and negative. Nothing in our terms restricts a homeowner’s right to honestly review a business, on or off Filteraty.
  • We remove or refuse reviews that violate this policy: content from someone who is not the reporting homeowner, undisclosed-connection reviews, incentivized reviews, unlawful or abusive content, or reviews posted to manipulate ratings (in either direction).
  • We verify eligibility (a declared hire, a real conversation), not the truth of what a review says. A review is its author’s account, not Filteraty’s finding.
  • Where the platform offers a response feature, contractors can respond to reviews publicly and professionally; a response is subject to this policy too.
  • If a review is removed for a policy violation, the reviewer can contact us to understand why and to resubmit a compliant review. If you believe a review about you is false or defamatory, contact us at info@filteraty.com; we review reports against this policy, but we do not arbitrate factual disputes about the work itself.
  • Delisting a contractor does not delete genuine reviews of work already done.

6. Other user content

Project descriptions, photos, messages, and profile content are covered by the content rules in the Terms of Use: post only what you have the right to post, nothing false or unlawful, no scraping or misuse. The content licence in the Terms of Use applies.

7. Reporting

Report a review or any content that violates this policy: info@filteraty.com.
